Campus information
Western University gym, library, health, and transit info in the pilot — not generic filler.
Safety & trust
Academic boundaries, answers from your school and your files, student-controlled data, and crisis help only when needed — not a companion chatbot.
Every message passes through a stack — filter, classify, enforce, audit — before and after the model.
Obvious unsafe requests blocked before Emily replies.
Separates study help from romantic, explicit, or manipulation attempts.
Refuses off-topic requests and keeps Emily in tutor mode.
Kept ~30 days on the tutor server — not sent to AI providers.
Student safety ops
Guardrails block companion drift and cheating — but students still have paths for crisis help, mistaken blocks on academic work, and product feedback without leaving Telegram.
/emergency
Crisis resources
Say "I need help" or /emergency for 988 and crisis lines. Emily is not a live counselor. Your trusted contact is notified only on defined crisis paths.
/support
Brief stress support
Turn on with /support on or say I need to vent (/vent works too). Short supportive replies — still within academic boundaries. Not therapy.
/appeal
Blocked by mistake?
Say "that was a mistake" or /appeal if a school topic was blocked wrongly — logged for parent review. Not for bypassing real safety rules.
/feedback
Product feedback
Say "I have feedback: …" or /feedback to reach the Emily team. Separate from homework help.
Ordinary moderation blocks are not texted to parents. Appeals and crisis paths are separate, defined flows.
Preferences, professors, pinned notes, and quiz progress stay saved between chats until you delete them — separate from your recent message history below.
Remembers you
Ask Emily to remember your favourite study spot, your professor, or pinned course notes. Next time you open Telegram, she still knows — unlike a one-off chat that forgets you when you close the app.
| What Emily keeps | Examples | Until |
|---|---|---|
| Preferences & habits | Music you like, favourite study spots | Until you delete |
| Professors & class rules | Dr. Kim, APA formatting preferences | Until you delete |
| Pinned course notes | Syllabus, notes from Drive or Notion | Until you remove them |
| Quiz progress | What you have practiced, review reminders | Exportable · deletable |
Try saying: “Remember I like K-pop” · “Remember I usually study at Weldon” · “Remember Dr. Kim is my chem professor”
This is different from your recent chat history. Things you ask Emily to remember stay saved until you delete them. When a conversation gets very long, Emily may focus on recent messages — that does not erase what you asked her to keep.
Long conversations
Emily is built for students on a budget. She keeps replies focused, summarizes very long chats, and does not pretend to remember every message forever. What you explicitly ask her to save is treated differently — see remembers you.
When a chat gets crowded, Emily keeps first: Quiz progress → Conversation summary → Uploaded file excerpts → School & file references → Older messages.
Emily replaces your name, contacts, and personal details with generic labels before any outbound AI call. The mapping stays on Emily's server — and replies are checked so labels do not leak back to you.
Privacy by default
Emily cleans your messages on her own server before sending anything to OpenAI or other AI services. Your real name, contacts, and personal details are replaced with generic labels — and the mapping that links labels back to you never leaves Emily.
On by default. Separate from memory you control — anonymization affects what AI companies receive, not what Emily saves locally until you delete it.
Local-first storage with student-controlled copies — not an unlimited cloud backup. See what syncs to Google Drive automatically versus what needs a full export.
Your backups
Emily stores your data on the tutor server — but she does not promise it can never be lost. Your best protection is copies you control, especially Google Drive when connected.
| Option | You might say… | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Full data export | "export my data" | ZIP with chats, saved memory, quiz progress, profile, reminders, notes, and more→ Sent in Telegram (or saved on server if very large) · About once per 24 hours |
| Save session to Drive | "export to Google Drive" | Markdown summary of your current tutoring session→ Your Google Drive · Whenever you ask |
| Auto Drive sync | Automatic when Google is connected | Chat transcript, latest session, notes, timetable, and an offline readme→ Your Drive → exports/ folder · After you chat (about every 2 minutes, when something changed) |
| Uploaded file copies | When you attach a PDF or photo (Google connected) | A copy of files you upload for study help→ Your Drive → uploads/ folder (by date) · Per upload |
Auto Drive folder includes

Not automatic — know the gaps
After forget: Copies already in your Google Drive are not deleted when you say "forget everything" on Emily — see the Privacy Policy. Full export before a forget is a good idea if you want to keep everything.

Emily can still be wrong — we design for your school's info and your files, not perfect answers.
Western University gym, library, health, and transit info in the pilot — not generic filler.
PDFs, slides, and Drive files ground answers on materials you share.
Syllabus and notes you ask Emily to save — cited when possible.
Names and personal details stripped on Emily's server before OpenAI or other providers — generic labels, mosaic-resistant, on by default.
/mood, /support, /family, and /household — or say it in plain words. Off by default; mood and vent are not shared with parents unless you choose.
Focused replies and summaries for very long chats — affordable for students, not infinite back-and-forth.
Confirm grades, medical, and legal matters with official sources. When uncertain, Emily says so. Campus questions use your school's campus information; study help prefers files you upload and notes you pin.
Trusted contact is notified only for mental-health crisis paths (
/emergency) and deployment spend alerts — not for
ordinary moderation or flirting attempts.
Reproduction in biology, romance in literature, attachment in psychology — academic analysis yes; sexualized roleplay no.
