For students

Your tutor lives in Telegram.

Message Emily like you'd text a friend — study help for Western's science program, campus directions at Western University, and connected apps in one thread. Hints and quizzes, not answer keys.

What you can do

One Telegram thread — switch modes or chain a full study night.

Tutor

Step-by-step help with first-year science — biology, chemistry, physics — plus quizzes that track what you have learned.

Proofread

Attach a draft for scores (1–5) and numbered suggestions — no ghostwritten rewrites.

Voice

Send voice notes or lecture recordings. Optional voice replies — say voice off for text only.

Files

Upload PDFs, slides, or photos — Emily answers from your materials, not made-up readings.

Campus

Weldon Library, Rec Centre, timetable, weather — Western University in London, Ontario in the pilot.

Location

Share location → directions around Western University campus or transit to downtown London.

Organize

To-do lists, notes, shopping lists, reminders, morning and evening briefings.

Connect

Link Google, Notion, Spotify, or Uber once in chat — your school must enable each connection on the server first.

Memory

Ask Emily to remember preferences · "what do you know about me?" · "forget everything" — saved between chats.

Quick start

  1. 1

    Open the bot

Anyone can start @Emcbearbot on Telegram → accept Terms (18+ or parent-managed).

  2. 2

    Take the tour

Reply next for a quick walkthrough, or jump straight in with a question.

  3. 3

    Just ask

No commands required — "explain mitosis" · "directions to Weldon" · "quiz me on that". Built for Western's science program students in the pilot.

How you talk to Emily

Just message her — like texting a study buddy

You do not need to know how AI works. Type or talk in normal sentences. Emily figures out whether you want help studying, directions, a reminder, or something saved for next time.

Your backups

Copies you control — not a “never lost” promise

Emily stores your data on the tutor server — but she does not promise it can never be lost. Your best protection is copies you control, especially Google Drive when connected.

Auto Drive folder includes

latest_session.mdtranscript.jsonlmy_notes.mdstudy_timetable.mdOFFLINE_README.md

Full ZIP export includes

  • Saved memory & professors
  • Chat transcript (non-private turns)
  • Quiz progress & sessions
  • Profile, reminders, notes, timetable
  • Drive file list (names only — not file contents)

Not automatic — know the gaps

  • Memory & quiz progress. Do not auto-sync to Drive — use "export my data" for a full ZIP.
  • Private chats. Messages in privacy mode or marked private are omitted from exports.
  • Uploaded files on Emily. Server copies are short-lived (~24h) unless archived to your Drive.
  • Server failure. Without your own export or Drive copies, data on the tutor server could be lost.

After forget: Copies already in your Google Drive are not deleted when you say "forget everything" on Emily — see the Privacy Policy. Full export before a forget is a good idea if you want to keep everything.

Long sessions

Explore deep, reset when you need to

Emily is built for real study nights — follow-up questions, switching between study and campus help, and long conversations — without pretending every message is remembered forever.

  • Follow-up questions stay on topic. Say "tell me more" or "go deeper" and Emily keeps the thread going — you do not have to repeat yourself from scratch.
  • Emily suggests the right mode. Say "quiz me on that" and she switches to practice. Ask for directions and she handles campus help. She may ask yes or no first.
  • Fresh start when you need it. Say "new topic" or "fresh start" to clear the current thread. On very long chats, Emily focuses on recent messages and may offer a clean handoff.

Try: tell me more about mitosis · quiz me on that · fresh start

Student safety ops

Crisis, appeals, and feedback

Guardrails block companion drift and cheating — but students still have paths for crisis help, mistaken blocks on academic work, and product feedback without leaving Telegram.

  • /emergency

    Crisis resources

Say "I need help" or /emergency for 988 and crisis lines. Emily is not a live counselor. Your trusted contact is notified only on defined crisis paths.

  • /support

    Brief stress support

Turn on with /support on or say I need to vent (/vent works too). Short supportive replies — still within academic boundaries. Not therapy.

  • /appeal

    Blocked by mistake?

Say "that was a mistake" or /appeal if a school topic was blocked wrongly — logged for parent review. Not for bypassing real safety rules.

  • /feedback

    Product feedback

Say "I have feedback: …" or /feedback to reach the Emily team. Separate from homework help.

Ordinary moderation blocks are not texted to parents. Appeals and crisis paths are separate, defined flows.

Plain words work — shortcuts are optional

You never need to memorize commands. These are handy if you want them — or just say what you need naturally.

Fair use

Emily won't complete homework for submission, write your application essay, or roleplay as a partner. It will explain, hint, proofread, and organize.
